Larry Trimby
Age 68, of Custer Park, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, with his family at his side.
Born July 9, 1957, in Joliet, Illinois, Lawrence Ray was the son of Homer and Vivian (Weber) Trimby. He graduated from Reed-Custer High School with the Class of 1975 and went on to complete the Sheet Metal Workers Local 50 apprenticeship program. Larry worked as a journeyman sheet metal worker for 34 years, retiring from Local #265 in 2012.
Larry was a dedicated volunteer at Grace Lutheran Church in Wilmington, where he assisted with the preschool program and contributed his time to many special projects and events.
Larry had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh, often sharing amusing stories. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears and enjoyed watching their games. Above all, Larry cherished time with his grandchildren, taking great pride in attending their soccer and baseball games, as well as school programs. He also enjoyed watching nature programs and American history documentaries.
Survivors include his son Shane (Elizabeth) Trimby and their children, Layla and Luke of Bourbonnais; his daughter, Kristin (Jon) Winker and their children, Kolton and Reese of Wilmington; his twin brother, Jim (Mary) Trimby of Bonfield; sisters: Susan Trimby and Connee Trimby, both of Custer Park and Michele (Gary) Hoppenrath of Somerset, Kentucky; his nephew, Thomas of Somerset and niece, Jeni (Trace) Lambert of Bloomington, Illinois.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Vivian Trimby and sister, Margaret Trimby Bungo.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Braidwood, where Larry will be laid to rest with his sister.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Larry’s memory to Grace Lutheran Preschool, 907 Luther Drive, Wilmington, IL 60481.
