Laverne A. "Mick" Peterson

Age 84 of Morris, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends, on the morning of May 28, 2026.

Born on October 27, 1941, Mick grew up in the Grundy County area and graduated from Minooka High School with the Class of 1960. A hardworking man with a passion for the open road, he dedicated his life to a career as a truck driver. Throughout his decades behind the wheel, Mick worked as an independent driver and also drove for Cardinal Transport, Koubenec, and Ruan Transport.

Outside of work, Mick was a man of simple pleasures and deep contentment. He could often be found wearing one of his signature plaid shirts and a trucker hat, settled in to watch an old Western movie or a NASCAR race. He had a great love for food, racing, and the timeless music of Willie Nelson and Shania Twain. Above all, Mick will be remembered for his incredibly kind heart and remarkably gentle spirit. He was a selfless man who went through life with patience.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Amy J. Eckert, and her husband, Donald, of Morris, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Mason W. Eckert and Hailey A. Eckert, both of Morris, IL; and his dear sister, Diane M. Reeve (Peterson) of Morris, IL.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin L. Peterson (d. 1981) and LaValle M. Peterson (d. 1999), as well as his sisters, Delores Schroers (d. 2013) and Sharon Harrington (d. 2024).

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. Cremation rites have been accorded, and he will be laid to rest at a later date in West Lisbon Lutheran Cemetery with his parents. His kind soul and peaceful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
