LaVonne Marie Clackum

LaVonne Marie Clackum (nee Toovey), a cherished matriarch who embraced her roles as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 87 on December 23, 2023. Born and raised in Joliet, IL, she also made her home in Covington, GA, and spent her later years residing in Morris, IL.

In addition to her deep love for family, LaVonne was recognized for her talent in completing crossword puzzles using ink and her well-regarded wit. She enthusiastically participated in a weekly trivia group, effortlessly answering most questions without hesitation or the assistance of Google. Her quick wit and knowledge were admired by all who knew her.

LaVonne is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Elmer Glenn Clackum; and her previous husband, Leslie Kenneth Carter; her beloved parents, Harry and Eleanor Toovey; and her sister, Phyllis Toovey Smith. She is survived by two daughters: Deborah L. Trotter (spouse: Noel Trotter) and Kelly A. Carter; three grandchildren: Terri Trotter Early (spouse: Randy Early), John K. Trotter, and Dana Grunwald (spouse: Chad Grunwald); as well as five great-granddaughters: Izzy, Cece, Aubrey, Caroline, and Ellie.

LaVonne was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morris, IL, regularly attending Saturday evening services. She found joy in the live music, cherished the fellowship, and appreciated the inspiration from the heartfelt sermons.

As a tribute to her life, LaVonne has designated the First Presbyterian Church to receive donations in her memory. Instead of holding a visitation or gathering, LaVonne invites you to honor her memory by gathering with your loved ones and celebrating a cherished moment in life together.
