Lois Dyer of Maine Township, Coal City, Illinois, died peacefully at the family home on her 86th birthday, March 21, 2023.
Born March 21, 1937, Lois Jean was a daughter of Leonard and Naomi (Rentz) Francois. She was raised in Coal City, and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1955. On March 15, 1958, Lois married Ronald Dyer in Coal City, and together they made a home and raised a family.
Lois worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company, and over the years held positions in both the Joliet and Aurora offices. She was the founder of C.O.P.E. Animal Rescue, which encompassed her lifelong deep passion for animals, their care, and their rights. Furthermore, Lois was proud to have been a Certified License Animal Investigator with the State of Illinois. In addition to her love of animals, Lois enjoyed being athletic, and took pleasure in drawing and painting.
Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character. In Lois’ heart, all were welcome, safe and nurtured. Gone from our sight, Lois leaves behind a legacy of living by example. She showed how to live wholeheartedly devoted to nurturing love and hope, and her memory will continue to live in those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children: Rhonda (Wayne) Wolfe and David (Laurie) Dyer, both of Coal City; two grandchildren: Taryn Sanders of New Lenox and Kaitlyn Dyer of Coal City; sisters-in-law: Diane Francois, Barbara Tryner, Barbara Dyer, Karen Dyer, and Donna (Skip) Bolz, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ron in 2003; sister, Alice Grobstein, brothers: Donald Francois and Duane Francois; brothers-in-law: Richard Dyer, Donald Dyer and Joseph Tryner, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Beverly Graham.
