Age 74 of Reddick, Illinois died on January 21, 2026 at the University of Chicago Medicine.

Born on October 12, 1951 in Palermo, Sicily Lorenzo Salvatore was a son of Salvitore and Vita (Conigiro) Mazzamuto.

Sam founded the Wilmington Pizzeria in 1980 with his mother and remained dedicated to the business until his retirement in 2014. He was a simple man who enjoyed life’s everyday pleasures. He loved watching old western movies, riding his motorcycle, and tending to his garden. His goofy sense of humor brought smiles to everyone around him.

Sam enjoyed cooking and traveling, especially the trips he took with his children when they were younger. He adored his grandchildren and loved his family deeply and unconditionally. He was a devoted Bears fan who also loved hunting and fishing, spending as much time outdoors as possible.

He is survived by his children: Vince Mazzamuto of Chicago, Vita Mazzamuto of Pennsylvania, Elena Mazzamuto of Wilmington, Geatano Mazzamuto of Reddick, and Melodia Mazzamuto of Manteno, Illinois; five grandchildren: Elliana, Michael, Ava, Myla, and Sofia; one sister, Rosa Mazzamuto and nieces: Rosavita and Michela.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and son, Salvatore Mazzamuto.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home (700 East Kahler Road) on Sunday, February 1, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m
