Margarete Godsey

Age 90 of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away Saturday morning, October 2, 2021 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.

Born May 10, 1931 in Graz, Austria; Margarete Maria was a daughter of August and Maria (Praehsnig) Specht, and immigrated to America in 1948.

Margarete worked for Grinchuck’s Pant Factory before gaining employment with Johnson and Johnson Personal Products. Most recently she was employed as a private caregiver until her retirement. Margarete was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington; enjoyed music and dancing, and will be remembered for her love of the outdoors.

Survivors include four children: Barbara (Harlan) Beasley of Kentucky, Tony (Maureen) Brown Braidwood, Sue (John) Brower of Custer Park and Mikel (Beth) Godsey of Manteno; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Margarete was preceded in death by her husband William Godsey (1995) and her longtime companion, Marvin Giordano (2015).

Green flameless cremation rites have been accorded, and Margarete will be laid to rest in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Margarete’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
