Marian L. Prosser
Age 95 of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday evening, April 10, 2018 at Rock Run Place Assisted Living in Joliet, Illinois.
Born October 6, 1922 in Peotone, Illinois, Marian Louise was a daughter of John Patrick and Amelia (Reitz) Whalen. She was raised on a farm during the depression, and educated in a one room school house in Peotone Township. Following her graduation from Peotone High School, Marian went to work in Wilmington at Singleton’s Confectionary before gaining employment at the A&P Grocery Store. It was at the A&P that she met Henry J. Prosser, Jr. whom she went on to marry November 24, 1943 in Joliet. Together, Marian and Henry they made their home and raised their family in Wilmington.
Marian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, and throughout the years, took great pleasure in camping with family and friends. She and Henry wintered in Bradenton, Florida for more than 30 years.
Marian’s first love was that of being a mother and grandmother. Family was always of utmost importance to her, and she will forever be remembered as dedicated grandmother to her grandchildren both near and afar.
Survivors include her loving husband of more than 74 years, Henry; four children: Susan Pedersen of Annapolis, Maryland, Diane (Bill) Aros of Plainfield, Doug (Cherie) Prosser of Shorewood and Dale (Pat) Prosser of El Paso; daughter-in-law: Linda Prosser of Chehalis, Washington; (14) grandchildren: Kathryn Fraher, Jeff Shenk, Jennifer Shenk, Kristin Romero, Brian Ulrich, Ben Ulrich, Justin Prosser, Rachel Roberts, Emily Aros, Mark Prosser, Katie Prosser, Alicia Geary, Kyle Prosser, Curtis Prosser; (17) great grandchildren: Jeffery, Joseph, Sarah, Thomas, Ally, Zack, Keenan, Nolan, Chelsea, Kelsey, Holden, Parker, Jocelyn, John, Connor, Addison, Ethan, with another expected, and many nieces and nephews, as well as friends.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; one son John (June 22, 2013); daughter Nancy Shenk (March 25, 2018), and two sons-in-law: Ron Pedersen and Roger Shenk.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at the First Presbyterian Church, 301 North Kankakee Street in Wilmington on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 1:00 p.m.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington, and Marian’s grandchildren will act as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Marian’s memory to The First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington.
