Marion Erwin

Marion E. Erwin

Age 79 of Diamond, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Thursday November 7, 2019 at Morris Hospital.

Born September 28, 1940 in Wilmington, Marion Edward was a son of Robert and Jessie (nee Fritchley) Erwin. He was raised and educated in Roberts, Illinois and Thawville, Illinois, and graduated from Roberts-Thawville High School with the Class of 1958. Marion then served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. He attained the rank of Sergeant, and achieved awards including Expert Carbine and Rifle M-1 Sharpshooter.

On July 18, 1964, Marion married Joan K. Stamm in Thawville. They lived in Tipton, Indiana for seven years until settling in Wilmington. He worked for Amoco Chemical in Channahon from where he retired in 1994 after 25 years of service, and helped establish the Amoco Credit Union. Marion was a past member of Saint Peter's Lutheran church in Thawville, the Lapel Lions Club in Lapel, Indiana, and a current member of Coal City United Methodist Church. He was a dedicated member of the Braidwood Recreation Club, where he served on the fishing council for many years and took great care in maintaining the club grounds.

Marion was a man of many interests. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, but was also a mainstay at his grandchildren's sporting events. Marion liked to play shuffleboard, read history books, and travel. He looked forward to fishing trips to Wisconsin with his buddies, but the most impactful trip he ever took was to Arlington National Cemetery.

Ultimately, family was most important to Marion, and he cherished every moment he could spend with his children and grandchildren.
