Mary Christina Turan (nee Van Duyne)

Age 95, of Wilmington, IL passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 at her home.

Mary was born September 30, 1919 in Wilmington, IL  to the late Jacob and Florence Eula (nee Stewart) Van Duyne.  She was a life long resident of Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School.  On June 29, 1941 she married Turner (Terry) Turan and they shared 53 blessed years together until his death in 1994.

Mary owned and operated a beauty salon in the early 60's and years later, along with Terry, conducted an antique business known as "Mostly Pottery" in Wilmington.  She will be remembered by many for her love and interest in antiques.  She was an avid reader.  She enjoyed solving word search puzzles, singing and playing solitaire.  She had a zest for life that touched the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Mary was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and was unwavering in her devotion to her faith.

Above all else, she cherished her family and was cherished in return.

Mary is survived by her children, Susan (Jim) Stanley, Christine (Thom) Cochran and Doris (George) Ragain, Ten grandchildren, Robbie Day, Katie Roeder, Michelle Macina, Patrick Mann, David Ford, Jeffrey Ford, Julie Archey, Teri Streul, Tammy Alloe and Kenneth Turan, 26 great-grandchildren, her brother, William VanDuyne, 4 sisters-in-law, Ludmilla Hill, Joyce VanDuyne, Kathryn VanDuyne, and Betty VanDuyne, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Steven Turan, her daughter, Theresa Ford, her parents, six brothers, Claude, Francis, Leroy, Joseph, Alvin and Robert, five sisters, Eileen Gerrish, Agnes Moorman, Florence Jacklich, Mildred Wallen and Virginia VanDuyne, four sisters-in-law, Marge VanDuyne, Rose VanDuyne, Charlotte VanDuyne and Elaine VanDuyne, and five brothers-in-law, Wellman Hill, Lawrence Wallen, John Jacklich, William Moorman, Arden Gerrish and her father-in-law and mother-in law, Gustav and Susanna Turan.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Saint Rose Catholic Church, 604 South Kankakee Street in Wilmington from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 12:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Steve Bondi officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Wilmington.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Mary's memory to Kuzma Care Cottage.
