Age 52 of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 18, 2019.
Born July 12, 1966 in Gibson City, Illinois, Matthew Thomas is a son of Charles William and the late Phyllis Ann (Becker) Dennis. He was raised in Champaign and Eureka before moving to Wilmington with his family in 1983. Matt graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1985, and worked for the family business, Super Valu in Wilmington until 2007. Matt went on to attend Illinois Welding School and in 2010 went to work with Superior Mechanical out of Braceville, where he was currently employed.
Matt enjoyed fishing and music, and will be remembered as a true family guy. His greatest hobbies involved anything that involved his boys at his side.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Addie (nee James); two sons: Tom Dennis and Sam Dennis; his father, Bill Dennis of Wilmington; siblings: Greg (Venita) Dennis of Wilmington, Ted Dennis of Homer Glen, Chuck (Julie) Dennis of Bloomington, Marty (Machiko) Dennis of Gurnee, Tony Dennis of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Julie Dennis and Kris Dennis, both of Bloomington; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Darlene James of Wilmington; sister-in-law, Christine (James) Dooley of Wilmington; brother-in-law, Ken James of Trenton, Illinois and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Dennis and grandparents: Harry and Mary Dennis and Myrtle and Ted Becker.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, February 21, 2019 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington, and again on Friday morning, February 22, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church, 11478 West Route 17 in Bonfield from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Eric Brown will officiate and burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be: Tom Dennis, Sam Dennis, Greg Dennis, Ted Dennis, Chuck Dennis, Marty Dennis, Tony Dennis and James Dooley.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Matt’s memory to Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 S. Main Street in Wilmington, IL 60481.
