Matthew Kyle Lyday
Age 32 of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly August 9, 2021 at AMITA Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois.
Born November 14, 1988 in Joliet, Matthew Kyle is a son of Mitchell and Susan (Treadman) Lyday. He was raised in Wilmington; graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 2007, and went on to attend Saint Xavier University and Saint Francis University, from where he earned his Bachelors in Criminal Justice. Matt was hired by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and was currently employed, serving as an Investigator.
One who loved sports, Matt played football, wrestled and competed with the power lifting team at Wilmington High School as well as, continued in football at St. Xavier and St. Francis. He was a fan of the Chicago White Sox and was a season ticket holder for the Chicago Blackhawks. Matt enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, camping and shooting, and took pleasure in playing golf and barbequing. He loved music and played the guitar.
Humble and kind, generous and determined, Matt Lyday lived a life rich in family and friends. A man who embodied the principles he believed in, Matt’s indomitable spirit and willingness to live a life of service inspired all who were blessed to know him. Gifted with a brilliant mind and great sense of humor, Matt enjoyed such simple pleasures as just hanging out with friends and family, all while embracing every moment and person as a gift. His stature as a ‘gentle giant’, confidently offered safe harbor in life’s storms and enthusiastically celebrated life’s joys. Matt will forever be remembered and missed.
Survivors include his parents, Mitchell and Susan Lyday and brother, Max Lyday, all of Wilmington; paternal grandparents: Gerald and Henrietta Lyday of The Villages, Florida; maternal grandmother, Beverly Treadman of Wilmington; aunts and uncles: Michael Lyday of Braidwood, Deborah Treadman of Kankakee, Karen (Jay) Friedenberg of Bolingbrook, Christi (Guy) Follansbee of The Villages, Florida and Jeff (Carol) Treadman of Wilmington; numerous great aunts and great uncles; cousins: Erik Lyday, Briann Nelson, Nate Lyday, Karrah Miller, Abigail Friedenberg, Kaleb Nichols, Caitlin Follansbee, Laura Follansbee, Alli Strohm and Jeff Treadman and countless friends, as well as great colleagues.
Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Treadman and one aunt, Tami Lyday.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.
