MICHAEL T. BOWMAN

Age 45 of Flandreau, South Dakota, passed away Monday February 20, 2006 at his home.

Born July 29, 1960 in Chicago, Michael is a son of Joanne (Pagliaro) Portegys and the late James Bowman, Sr. He was educated in the Joliet Catholic School system and married Karen Pitsenberger on January 30, 1980 in Joliet. Michael had enlisted in the US Navy on March 06, 1980 and was a hull technician when he retired on August 31, 2000. He was then employed for two years by the Merchant Marines hauling ammunition to Iraq. Michael then decided to work on land and loving all that God created, he worked as a landscaper and owned M&I Tree Service. He was a member of the American Legion and former member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Joliet.

Survivors include his wife Karen, whom he loved deeply and two daughters: Cassandra Brooks and Alicia (Donovan) Kill-A-Hundred, all of Flandreau, South Dakota. Two sons: Michael Jr., and Jason Bowman, both in the Navy Seabees; his mother Joanne (Nicholas) Portegys of Wilmington and four siblings: Patricia (Eugene) Seigel of Walnut, Illinois, MSGT James Jr. (Kaye) Azores, USAF, Jeanne (William) Parker of Marseilles, Illinois and Kathleen (Michael) Marconi of Joliet.

Michael was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services were held in Flandreau, South Dakota and Michael will be buried at sea with full military honors abroad ship, off the coast of San Diego, California.

The family will receive friends on Friday March 03, 2006 from 4:30PM until time of memorial Mass 5:30PM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 North Woodlawn in Joliet.
