Michael A. Chiarappa

Age 59 of Coal City, Illinois, died Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at his residence.

Born July 27, 1967 in Oak Lawn, Illinois, Michael Angelo was raised in the West Lawn neighborhood of Chicago, graduated from Gurdon S. Hubbard High School, and completed an Associate's Degree at Richard J. Daley College. He moved to Coal City to be closer to his family and was a member of Teamsters Local 710, working as an over the road truck driver for many years.

Michael was a massive sports fan, supporting the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins, Chicago Cubs, but especially the Coal City Coalers. He also had an appreciation for fitness and weight-lifting, taking particular interest in bodybuilding during his high school and college years. Michael's greatest love was being with his family and friends. He was a very thoughtful person and always went all-in to celebrate people for landmark events or gathering for the holidays. Michael's loyalty to his family and friends was his calling card, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew him best.

Survivors include his stepfather, Robert Kinnunen; four children: Danielle (Grace) Perkowitz of Houghton, Michigan, Michael and Nicholas Chiarappa, both of Coal City, and Emma Chiarappa, of Tampa, Florida; one grandson, Tristan Jenkins, two aunts: Patricia (John "Jack") Schuld of Kentucky and Lori (Mark) Bonarek of Morris; one sister, Terri Miles of Indiana; one nephew, Andrew Franczyk; and his cousins: Daniel (Kim) Engelhardt, Joseph (Katie) Engelhardt, Donna (Bobby) Nass, Nicholas (Heather) Bonarek, and Ryan (Bailey) Bonarek.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Kinnunen.

Per Michael's wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway Street, in Coal City on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. A private committal service will be held at Braceville Gardner Cemetery at a later date.
