Nancy Duffy
Age 75, of Wilmington, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, June 30, 2026, at Silver Cross Medical Center in New Lenox, Illinois.
Born November 27, 1950, in Pontiac, Illinois, Nancy Jane was a daughter of Vernon Dale and Eddith Roberta (Logsdon) Shoop. She was raised and educated in Pontiac and graduated from Pontiac Township High School with the Class of 1968. On April 17, 1971, she married the love of her life, Donald Allen Duffy, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pontiac. Together they built a loving home in Wilmington, where they raised their family and became deeply rooted in the community.
Nancy began her professional career with Motorola Corporation before pursuing her passion for cosmetology. She attended cosmetology school, where she excelled in her studies and was honored to serve as a student instructor, an opportunity she always remembered with pride. Nancy then enjoyed a career as a hairstylist, working at both Curl Up and Dye and Wave Lengths in Wilmington, where she developed lasting friendships with clients and coworkers alike. She later joined the Development Office at Providence Catholic High School, where her warmth, kindness, and genuine love for people made her a treasured member of the school community until her retirement.
A woman of faith and generous service, Nancy was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Wilmington. Over the years, she served on the Parish Council and sang in the church choir. As her children were growing up, she was an active room mother, volunteered with the Parent-Teacher Organization, supported the Wilmington Baseball Association, and proudly served as president of the Mothers Club at Providence Catholic High School. In more recent years, she found great fulfillment volunteering with Kuzma Care Cottage, where she continued her lifelong commitment to serving others with compassion and generosity.
Nancy embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. She and Don treasured their winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where they created countless happy memories together. She enjoyed golfing, challenging herself with word searches, sharing dinners and laughter with friends, and simply being around people. More than anything, Nancy cherished her family. Her greatest joy was being “Mir Mir” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether enjoying family vacations, soaking up the sunshine, or celebrating life’s everyday moments, she treasured every opportunity to be surrounded by those she loved.
Nancy possessed a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome. She truly never met a stranger and had an extraordinary ability to strike up a conversation with anyone she encountered. It seemed no matter where she went, she would inevitably recognize someone, or make a new friend before she left. Her infectious smile, bubbly personality, caring heart, and unwavering kindness touched countless lives.
Nancy will be remembered for the love she shared so freely, the friendships she cultivated so naturally, and the joy she brought wherever she went. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the community she served, and the many lives made brighter simply because they knew her.
Survivors include her children: Mark (Pam) Duffy of Frankfort, Illinois, Luke (Jill) Duffy of Wilmington, and Molly (Hans) Schulte of Channahon, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Kiley and Anna Duffy, Kelsey (Chris) Heidrich, Quinn, Bree, Sydney, and Troy Duffy, and Isaac and Nora Schulte; great grandchildren: Kolby, Kynlee and Knox Heidrich; sisters-in-law: Carol Shoop of Odell, Illinois, Dorothy (the late Tom) Reese of Carol Stream, Illinois, Mary (Richard) Olson of Pontiac and Kathy (the late John) Duffy of Pontiac, and numerous nieces and nephews.
