Nancy Ann McMahon-McDowell

Age 67 of Wilmington, formerly of Chicago, died on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.

Born May 5, 1955 in Chicago, Nancy was a daughter of Donald and Elsie (Lidicky) Karl. She was raised and educated in Chicago and graduated from Lourdes High School with the Class of 1973. Nancy worked for over twenty years as a CNA and caregiver. She gave excellent care to all of her patients, but also had a knack for connecting with all of her clients creating a positive, nurturing relationship with them.

Nancy had a passion for gardening and enjoyed knitting and traveling, especially to Key West in Florida where she flourished in the warm air and sunshine. She was a loving mother whose caring nature was evident in her love for her children and those most dear to her. A gentle soul, with just a touch of stubbornness, Nancy’s role as a caretaker not only defined her professional life but also the way she lived her life, making sure to share her love and care with all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Grant McDowell of Wilmington, whom she married September 6, 2006; four children: Sarah (Nathan) McMahon-Dudley of Channahon, Jeffrey McMahon of Orlando, Florida, Genevieve McMahon of Bourbonnais, and Denise McMahon of Olympia, Washington; two grandchildren: Ahnika and Rylan; as well as three step-children, four step-grandchildren, and three adoptive grandchildren; one brother, Russell Karl of Chicago, and one aunt, Agnes (Marv) Phillips of Westchester, Illinois.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Elsie Karl.

Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to the donor’s choosing.
