Norma E. Geiss

Age 88 of Wilmington, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 3, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Norma E. was a daughter of Rupert and Marie (nee Eyerkuss) Wendler. She was raised and educated in Mt. Vernon, and then married Merle Dixon Geiss in 1952. Together, Norma and Merle would make their home and raise her family in Wilmington. She worked over 35 years for the Free Press Newspapers, preparing newspapers every week to go out for delivery. Norma loved going to bingo with her loving daughter, Diane, and her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children: Lester (Darlene) Geiss and Terry (Becky) Geiss, both of Wilmington, Sue (the late Bill) Dorsett of Avon Lake, Ohio, Diane (Dave) Carter of Wilmington, Marion Ramsey of Auburn, Kentucky, and Mickey (Tammy) Geiss of Wilmington; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her six brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington, where Norma will be laid to rest with her husband.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Norma's memory to Kuzma Care Cottage or to the American Heart Association.
