Patricia Martis

Pat Martis, of Winter Haven, Florida and formerly of Coal City, Illinois, passed away in Winter Haven on Sunday, April 3, 2022, after a 4-year valiant battle with ovarian cancer. A warrior throughout life, she was 78 years old.

Pat was born Patricia Rae Wilson on Sept. 20, 1943, in Coal City, to parents William “Bill” and Lola (nee Miller) Wilson. Pat was raised in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 1961. She married Elmer Martis, on June 30, 1962, and raised 3 beautiful children. They lived in Coal City until they moved permanently to Winter Haven, in 2018. Pat made a career in banking before she retired in 1995.

Pat was a very special woman and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dearest friend with the biggest heart anyone could have. She never met a stranger; to know her was to love her. Her heart was warm and caring; her smile and laugh infectious. Her grandson was the light of her life and made sure everyone knew it. Pat was always willing to lend a helping hand or cook a meal whenever someone was in need. Pat enjoyed quilting, reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years, Elmer Martis; three children, Greg Martis, Rodney Martis, Tami (Brian) Cashion; her cherished grandson, Chase Cashion; brothers and sister, Bill (Karen) Wilson, Jim (Sharon) Wilson, Judy (Larry) Stafford, Jack Wilson, Larry (Nancy) Wilson and many nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Lola and Bill; sister, Laurie Luedtke, brother-in-law, Larry Stafford, and mother/father-in-law, Margaret (nee Skubic) and Elmer Martis.

At the wishes of our beloved wife and mother, Pat was cremated.

Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate Pat’s life on Saturday, June 25, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 215 S. Kankakee Street in Coal City at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Joshua Miller will preside, and Deacon William Dunn will assist. Pat will then be laid to rest in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery. Following the services, all are invited to join together to receive the family during a memorial luncheon which will be held in the Berst Center of Assumption Parish.
