Age 80 of Goose Lake, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, Illinois and Worth, Illinois, died Friday, December 26, 2025 at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet, Illinois.

Born on June 11, 1945, in Chicago, Patrick John was the son of James Cassin and Margaret Ottaman. He was raised and educated in the city and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the military. He served as a loadmaster on a C-124 aircraft, where he logged more than 1,700 flight hours. Following his years of service, Patrick married his beloved wife, Kathy Sadowski, on November 1, 1988. During that time, he spent over 35 years as a member of the Sprinkler Fitter Union, Local 281, before his long-awaited retirement.

Patrick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his home in Goose Lake and took great pride in maintaining his landscaping. He was also a talented cook and impressed his wife, Kathy, early in their relationship. Known for his sense of humor, Patrick was a jokester who always had a one-liner ready to make others laugh. Kind, patient, and quietly thoughtful, he most cherished spending time with his grandchildren, especially teaching them skills like fishing.

Patrick is survived by his wife Kathy Cassin of Goose Lake; children: Liza (Jeremy) Barrick of Sparland, Illinois and Ronald (Carrie) Cummins of Wilmington, Illinois; two grandchildren, Jaycie and Joshua Cummins; brothers and sisters-in-law: Casey (Gay) Sadowski of Tuscon, Arizona, Robert (Deni) Sadowski of Prosperity, South Carolina, Rich (Eileen) Wertin of Channahon, Illinois and the late Shirley (Tony) Rickert of Sun City, Florida; several nieces and nephews, his incredible neighbors from Goose Lake, and his furry friend Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two siblings: Jim (Lynn) Cassin and Diana (Frank) Talarico.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 West Jefferson Street, in Morris on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m.

Following the services, cremation rites will be held, and he will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors, in recognition of his faithful service to his country.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Pat's name to Lightways Hospice.
