Peggy Decker

Peggy Sue Proffitt-Decker

Age 58 of Goose Lake and formerly of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, April 10, 2019 at Morris Hospital.

Born April 25, 1960 in Joliet, Illinois, Peggy Sue was a daughter of Jimmy Wallace and Marilynn Jane (Cupples) Proffitt. She was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1978.

Peggy worked for Smurfit-Stone as a Customer Service Representative for over 20 years, in several locations including Schaumburg, Illinois, San Jose, California and Channahon, Illinois. She was currently employed as a Customer Service Representative with USF Holland, and a member of Teamsters Local 179.

One who was dedicated to her job, and more importantly, devoted to her family, Peggy loved being a mom, grandmother and aunt. Family was of utmost importance to her, and she was the one who was instrumental in bringing the family together. Peggy was known for her love of pets and animals, and enjoyed cooking, especially homemade pies. Though she ‘marched to the beat of her own drum’, Peggy’s creativity also went far beyond the kitchen. She was a fashionista in her own realm, took pleasure in interior design and was always updating her home.

Peggy’s amazing spirit and wonderful laughter will be deeply missed. May her rich memories, unconditional love, and immeasurable kindness live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include two daughters, Ashley Paige Rogers and Madison Cecilia Decker (Nick Bollacker), both of Goose Lake; her step-son, Sean Decker of Braidwood; one granddaughter, who was the apple of her eye, Lilian Rose Decker; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jill (Phil) Anderson of Wilmington, Shelly (Mark) Molle of Dwight, Wendy Hunter (Mark Kahler) of Metamora and Pamela (David) Pitts of Wilmington; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and many special friends, as well as Stanlee and Lexi Buczek of Coal City, who were like her children.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean Decker (February 11, 2008) and many aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service 4:00 p.m.
