Perry "Pete" Guthrie, Sr.

"Pete"

Age 72 of Wilmington, Illinois, formerly of Tennessee and Arizona, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.

Born April 27, 1951 in Wilmington, Perry Dale was a son of Dale and Goldie (Hoy) Guthrie. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1969. Pete worked for the papermill in Wilmington out of high school until he began a career as a mechanic. His career spanned over 25 years, demonstrating a strong work ethic and dedication for several different employers. Perry truly loved working on cars, allowing for his career to not just provide for him and his family, but to be something he was passionate about and brought him great joy. When he wasn't working, he liked to go fishing and shoot pool, but nothing was more important to him than seeing his family grow from his children to grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include three children: Perry Guthrie, Jr. of Wilmington, Brian Angelo of Rockford, Illinois, and Bobby (Heather Burgett) Guthrie of Elwood, Illinois, and five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; five brothers and sisters: Brenda (Tom) Stacy of Wilmington, Shirley Latham of Florida, Linda Moore of Tennessee, Tina (the late Sid) Bergman of Carmi, Illinois, and Brian (Jane) Guthrie of McLeansboro, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Judy Guthrie of Mcleansboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Guthrie, and one sister, Paulette, in infancy; and his former wife, Mary Guthrie.

Per his wishes, cremation rites are being accorded and a celebration of life is being planned for a later date.

Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guest book, upload photographs, and share Pete's memorial page via social media.

Services and arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Homes and Crematory in Wilmington (815) 476-2181.
