Richard W. Strubin
Age 58 of Wilmington, Illinois, died unexpected on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Born on November 26, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard William Strubin is a son of Richard Michael and Judith Dorothy (Berka) Strubin. He was raised in Wilmington, where he enjoyed playing Little League baseball and attended St. Rose School before graduating from Wilmington High School.
Rich went on to build a successful career as a member of Plumbers Local 130, dedicating many years to the trade before retiring in January of 2026. During his career, he spent 20 years with O’Sullivan Plumbing in Mokena, serving as a foreman in the fabrication shop.
In addition to his membership in Plumbers Local 130, Rich was a member of the Braidwood Recreation Club and a lifelong parishioner of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington. Throughout the years, he also attended Immaculate Conception Parish in Braidwood and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Coal City.
Rich found great enjoyment in life's simple pleasures. He loved golfing and fishing, had a passion for cars, and enjoyed traveling. In earlier years, he especially enjoyed riding his bicycle. Above all, Rich cherished time spent with family and friends.
He will be remembered for his gentle nature, kind heart, and easygoing spirit. A mild-mannered and humble man, Rich valued family above all else and leaves behind many treasured memories that will be carried forward by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his parents, Richard M. and Judy Strubin of Peotone; siblings: Lisa Marie (Chris) Sikaras of Spring Grove, Illinois and Andrew C. (Tina) Strubin and Rachel T. (Keith) Phelan, both of Wilmington; three nephews: Matthew Phelan, his Godson Michael Phelan and Ethan Jackson; aunts and uncles: his Godmother, Kathy (Julio) Garcia of Tinley Park, Illinois, Martin (Kathy) Strubin of Palos Hills, Illinois, Rick Fitzgibbons and Maureen (Arthur) Allabaron both of Tinley Park, Fredrick (Kathy) Strubin of Chicago, Eileen (Arthur) Scrogons of Frankfort, Illinois, Robert Berka of St. Charles, Illinois and Jim Finfrock of Homewood, Illinois, as well as numerous cousins.
Rich was preceded in death by his grandparents: Richard W. and Winifred Strubin and Harold and Esther Berka, and three aunts: Christine Fitzgibbons, Janet Finfrock and Kathy Berka.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday morning, June 9th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rose Catholic Church, 604 South Kankakee Street in Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Sebastian Gargol presiding and Deacon Jay Plese assisting.
Burial will be in Mount Saint Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Wilton Center.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Rich’s memory to Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 S. Main Street in Wilmington, IL 60481. Kuzma Care Cottage in a Wilmington based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food and essential assistance to individuals and families facing hardship.
