Obituary

Robert "Bob" Kalafut

Age 77 of Bloomington, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 18, 2026, in Normal, Illinois.

Born August 16, 1949 in Chicago, Bob was a son of John and Tillie (Kowalski) Kalafut. He was raised and educated in Chicago where he graduated from High School. Bob went on to serve in the United States Army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1971. He worked for the Ahern Sign Company in Chicago and later as a maintenance mechanic with the Women's Treatment Center in Chicago.

He enjoyed gardening and playing Billiards, in addition to slot machines and virtual gaming, and was a die hard Chicago White Sox fan. Bob was a member of the Blue Condor Club and had a great sense of humor, always quick with one of his dad jokes trying to make people laugh. He was a very giving person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Bob was a true hard working man whose work ethic was unquestionable, determined to always set a good example and provide for his family.

He was a loving person with a soft heart once you worked your way through his tough exterior. Bob was great with children, whether it was his own, his step-children, or just the local neighborhood kids. His family was his most cherished possession and he was so proud of all of his children and grandchildren. Bob's devotion to his wife and family will be his lasting legacy.

Survivors include his wife, Candette "Candy" Czahor of Bloomington, IL; children: Karen (Felipe) Frutos and Paul (Antonia) Kalafut, both of Bloomington, IL, Krystle (Jay) Anich of Inlet Beach, FL, and Jaclynn Burrgess (Tim Miles) of Lowell, IN; grandchildren: Maria (Saul), Christian, Jacob, Andres, Dominica, Isaiah, Anastasia, Alexia, Elijah, Ariana, Alexander, Aiden, and Amelia; great granddaughter, Leilani, with another great grandchild on the way; one brother, Ronald (Eileen) Kalafut, and two sisters, Joann Kalafut and Rita (Tom) Daniel; as well as many nieces and nephews and his two pups: Daisy and Duke.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bobby Kalafut, and four siblings: Curly, Jimmy, Pat, and Rose.

The family will receive friends at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and memorial services will follow on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment with full military honors will immediately follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
