Born on May 23, 1955, in Chicago, Ronald Joe was a son of Clarence Leroy Hall and Ruby (DeVore) Hall. He was raised in Chicago until the age of 12, when his family moved to Romeoville. Joe graduated from high school and later continued his education at Illinois State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history in 1996 and also spent a semester studying in Taxco, Mexico. Joe married Pegge (Hickok) Hall on September 7, 1980, and they shared 45 years of companionship, joy, and adventure together. He worked as a respiratory therapist and particularly enjoyed working in pediatrics and the emergency room. He and Pegge lived and worked in Seattle, Florida, Saudi Arabia, California, and North Carolina before eventually returning to Illinois.
Faith was at the center of Joe’s life, and his relationship with God was deeply important to him. He especially enjoyed thoughtful conversations about the Bible with his brother David and his nephew Rob. Joe was creative and had a lifelong love of music and art. He enjoyed playing his guitars, dulcimer, and percussion instruments. He also wrote and recorded songs at home. Joe loved painting and creating artwork in many forms. His musical tastes ranged from blues and classical music to his favorite—rock and roll.
Joe enjoyed staying active through coed softball, basketball and hiking. He was also an avid video gamer. Joe and Pegge played backgammon on their first date, a game they continued to enjoy throughout their 45 years together. Joyful and curious travelers, together they loved learning about different cultures, history, and food. Their travels took them to Turkey, Mexico, Morocco, Thailand, Central and South America, and many countries throughout Europe and the world.
Joe will be remembered as a loving husband, brother, and uncle. His faith, creativity, curiosity, and kindness touched many lives.
