Ronald Gene Stewart

Age 80 of Channahon, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born November 3, 1940 in Charleston, Missouri, Ronald Gene was a son of Roy Glenmore and Opal Irene (Smith) Stewart. He was raised and educated in Rockford before moving to Channahon, where he graduated from Minooka High School. Ronald worked as a millwright with General Motors Corporation from where he retired, and went on to later gain employment with Sheffield Steel in Joliet and finally T.J. Lambrecht Construction. He was a member of Troy Sportsman Club for over four decades, and enjoyed camping, boating and his dogs. In addition, Ronald was a car enthusiast and collected World War II memorabilia, military history and firearms. He will be remembered as a social guy who cherished spoiling his granddaughters.

Survivors include his daughter, Catherine (Tracy) Stott of Morris; son, Robert (Gail) Stewart of Channahon; four granddaughters: Tiffany (James) Hogan of Rock Island, Tania Stott of Bourbonnais, and Kristina Stewart and Cassidy Stewart, both of Channahon; his second wife Judith Stewart of Minooka; two sisters: Fran (Tom) Deering of Las Vegas, Nevada and Betty Johnson of Madison, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Nancy Murley of Morris and brother-in-law, Gary (Cindy) Murley of Minooka, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Opal Stewart, his step-father, Arthur Edward Hoy; first wife, Joyce (nee Murley) Stewart, and two brothers-in-law, Donald and Jon Murley.

The family will receive friends for a COVID observant walk through visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block east of Illinois Route 47) in Morris on Saturday, March 27, 2021 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Graveside services will follow in Plattville Lutheran Cemetery in Minooka, where Ronald will be laid to rest with his first wife, Joyce.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Ronald’s memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431.
