Age 75 of Carbon Hill, Illinois died Sunday evening, March 24, 2024, at his home with family at his side.

Born March 24, 1949, in Pope County, Illinois, Ronald Dale was a son of Cecil and Kate (Thomas) Taylor. Growing up in Pope County, he graduated from Golconda High School as part of the Class of 1967. Following his graduation, Ronald embarked on a career with the EJ&E Railroad as a Brakeman and Conductor, dedicating himself for 32 years until his well-deserved retirement.


On October 7, 1972, Ron joined in matrimony with Roberta Joneson at the Coal City Methodist Church. Together they built a home and raised their sons.  Ron was a member of the United Transportation Union, formerly belonged to the Morris Moose Lodge, coached little league baseball, and served the Village of Carbon Hill on the Zoning Board for 10 years.


Ronald was known for his love of the outdoors, spending enjoyable moments gardening, and caring for his yard. His passion for reclaiming and rehabbing homes throughout the years showcased his tenacity and skill. Described as a man of few words but immense kindness, Ron leaves behind a profound legacy of love and devotion to his family.


Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Roberta; two sons: Brent (Jennifer) Taylor of Minooka, Illinois and Jeremy Taylor of Peoria, Illinois; two grandchildren: Brielle Taylor and Maxwell Taylor; two brothers: John (Rae) Taylor of Braidwood, Illinois and Bob Taylor of Stone Fort, Illinois and sister-in-law, Betty Taylor of Braidwood, and special niece, Nicole Joneson and family of Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.


Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Kate Taylor; siblings: Wanda, Lewis, Clyde “Red”, Gary, and Jewell, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Ramona Joneson; two brothers-in-law, James “Jimmy” Joneson and Glenn Joneson, and two sisters-in-law, Prissy Joneson and Kay Taylor.


Green flameless cremation rites have been accorded.


The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at the Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road in Coal City on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service, 11:00 a.m.


Inurnment will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.


Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ron’s memory to the Coal City United Methodist Church or to the ALS United Chicago.
