Roseanna Wallace
Age 96, and a lifelong resident of Wilmington, died peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026 with her family by her side.
Born December 5, 1929 in Wilmington, Rose was the daughter of Frank and Rose Chaney. She was raised in Wilmington where she attended Wilmington schools, and on December 27, 1947 she married Howard Thomas "Slick" Wallace and together they continued to make Wilmington her home where they raised their family.
Rose dedicated her life to being a wonderful wife and mother, ensuring that her family had a warm home to grow in. She supported her husband by raising their children and maintaining their home with as much love and care as possible. Rose was a lifelong, dedicated member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 781 in Wilmington, and in her leisure time she enjoyed bingo and was an avid euchre player. Being with family was what made her happiest and seeing her family tree blossom was her proudest achievement. Rose was blessed with 96 years, but those who knew and loved her were even more fortunate to have her as part of their lives.
Survivors include three children: Samuel (Beverly) Wallace of Greenup, IL, and Mary Faye Hendron and Lewis Curtis Wallace, both of Wilmington; three grandchildren: Penny Lynn Burns and Samuel Wallace, Jr. both of Joliet, IL, and Gary Pauley, Jr. of Mattoon, IL, as well as numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents and husband; four brothers: Carlos, Hampton, Curtis, and Chester Chaney; and two grandchildren: Julie Ann Calhoun and Heather Marie Cardoza.
Per her wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
