Rosetta Hughes

Age 72 of Wilmington, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.

Born July 14, 1951, in Manteno, Illinois, Rosetta Marie was the daughter of Maurice Mascarino, Sr. and Marjean (nee Hansen) Oller. She was raised in Kankakee County, and on July 20, 1968 she married Ronald R. Hughes at First Baptist Church in Wilmington.

Rosetta worked as a machine operator for 29 years at Johnson & Johnson Personal Products in Wilmington, and also owned her own Faux Painting business for several years. The arts were very special to her, and she lent her talents to the local community theater programs making scenery and stage props. Rosetta's faith was a central focus in her life and she was a devoted member of Back to the Cross Ministries in Orland Hills, Illinois, where she participated in their Ladies' Bible Study.

She loved to travel with her husband to various national parks across the country and enjoyed hiking, bicycling, and kayaking. Rosetta also had an affinity for animals and nature, and looked forward to trips to Florida where her father managed a family zoo. She had many close relationships with her extended family and friends and she will be remembered for her strong faith and love of family.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Ron Hughes, and one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Zonda Hughes, all of Wilmington; one brother, Maurice Mascarino, Jr. of Bourbonnais, Illinois; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: David and Barbara Hughes of Channahon, Illinois and Cathy Hughes of Worth, Illinois; several cousins, including Donald Hanson of St. Anne, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends, including: Pat Malcolm, Mary Jane Sinkular, Sara Rodriguez, Henrietta Lyday, Paula Spurlock, and Sharon Moyer.

Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents: Maurice Mascarino, Sr., and Marjean and Jackie Oller; and two brothers-in-law: Roger and Joe Hughes.
