Ruby M. (Hoge) Matteson, 80, of Morris, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet with her family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born January 10, 1944 in Morris to Karl and Myrtle Jerine (Thompson) Hoge. She graduated from Serena High School with the Class of 1962. Ruby married Kenneth E. Matteson January 18, 1964 and was known for her spunkiness, beautiful smile, her kind giving heart and the deep love for her family, proud of her girls, grandkids and great grandkids. She enjoyed her garden, her flower beds, feeding her birds and loved her cats. She was also known as the local Lefsa and Kringla lady, she loved being in her kitchen baking for family and friends. Always helping those less fortunate, donated her time to local food pantries, often filling the local food pantries outside the Morris Library and Grundy County Admin building, and volunteering her time to local charities. Ruby drove a school bus for over 46 years for Morris and Minooka, was a Hostess at R-Place and Golden Flame in Morris.
Siblings, Bill (Joan) Hoge (Lakeland Florida), sister Ruth and Gordon Jameson (passed), several nieces and nephews.
She shared a true love story with her soulmate Ken, meeting on a blind date, and married after two months. They built a beautiful family together and were married for over 60 years. Would’ve celebrated their 61st anniversary on January 18, 2025. She loved her family deeply. She left behind her husband Kenneth E. Matteson of Morris, Illinois, Lisa J (Matteson) and Ed Oppenlander of Morris, Illinois, Wendy J (Matteson) and Ken Briley of Minooka, Illinois grandkids Tasha and Mike Saltzman (Seneca) Deven and Pete Mireles (Evans Colorado), David and Shelby Romines (Morris), bonus grandson Ken Briley Jr. and Ashley (Ransom), five beautiful, great grandchildren Avery, Drake, Ryann, Selene and Holly and three bonus Great Grandchildren Kenzie, Addy and Blakley who will miss her deeply.
Memorials may be given to Shriner’s Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name.
A memorial services will be held at a later date.
