Sandra Sue Cerny

Age 87 of Coal City and formerly of Cocoa, Florida, passed away Sunday evening on April 27, 2025 at Goldwater Care in Pontiac, Illinois.

Born on April 5, 1938, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, Sandra Sue was a daughter of William Patten and Hazel (Greenlee) Blackburn. At the age of 12, her family moved to Wilmington after the sudden loss of her father. She went on to graduate from Wilmington High School with the class of 1956. On June 23, 1957, Sandra married Anton Cerny in the Methodist Church in Wilmington and together they made their home and raised their family in Carbon Hill.

Sandra found joy in many creative pursuits, especially painting, quilting, and sewing. She was known for her loving heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering kindness. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored deeply. Sandra also treasured the time she shared with Anton in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where they made their home together in the warm and welcoming Canaveral Grove Community.

Survivors include her three children: Cindia (Kim) Brackett of Coal City, Tammy (Kevin) Christian of Morris, and Lori Lancaster, of Carbon Hill; grandchildren: Raymond (Lisa) Brackett and Brandy (Dan) Krug, both of Coal City, Burgundy (John) Johnson of Braceville, Christopher (Julie) Christian of Plattville, Daniel Christian (Kendra) of Marseilles, Mindy (Edward) Londeau of Port Richey, Florida, Michael Anton II Cerny of Carbon Hill, Lora Mae Cerny of Carbon Hill, Tiffany Lancaster of Carbon Hill, Whitney Lancaster of Carbon Hill; great grandchildren: Cody (Gina) and Jacob (Leah) Krug, Camron, Peyton and Dylan Carpenter, John Johnson II, Rhylan Brackett, MacKenzie, Mason and Bryce Christian, Maggie and Gianna Londeau, Lilyana Cerny, Layla and Roy Jr. Marsh, Amelia and Nora Lancaster; one sister in law, Marcia Togliatto of Diamond and two nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anton; son, Michael Anton; son in law, Eddie Lancaster; and two great grandchildren: Reese and Raygan Brackett.

Per Sandra's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and there will be a private family memorial. She will be inurned in Lawrenceville, Illinois at a later date.
