Sandra Sowa

Age 79 of Wilmington, formerly of Joliet, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Alden Estates of Orland Park.

Born October 26, 1941 in Joliet, Sandra Sue was raised and educated in Joliet and attended Joliet Central High School. She worked at Harrah’s Casino in Joliet for many years, where she made many friends, and would retire from in 2007.

Sandra was a social person who made a point to keep in touch with her family and friends, and was always on the phone with someone. She loved listening to music and kept a cassette tape playing in the background, unless the TV was on. Sandra enjoyed being outside soaking up the sunshine and was a proud owner of her beloved furbabies, Lily, Daisy, and Steele.

Survivors include her two children: John Sowa of Wilmington and Sue (James) Talbot of Joliet; five grandchildren: Madonna (Jerry) Black of Sheridan, Tina Howard of Ottawa, and Samantha (Travis) Saltzman, Courtney (Jacob) Bowsman, and Kiley Sowa, all of Wilmington; five great grandchildren: Rogue, John, Rhyett, Waylon, and Asher, with one more expected in October; daughter-in law: Wendy Sowa of Wilmington, and her god son, Marc Conterez of Connecticut.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.

Per Sandra’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington from 2:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 5:00 p.m. In accordance with CDC guidelines, face masks will be required by attendees of the visitation and memorial service.
