Sandra Sue Stacey

Age 77 of Kankakee, Illinois, died Saturday, May 9, 2026, in her home with her loving family by her side.

Born August 27, 1948, in Coolinga, California, Sandra Sue Stacey was a daughter of Donald and Betty (Durham) Stacey. She spent most of her childhood and school years throughout different areas of California.

Later in life, Sandra made her home in Wilmington, where she built a fulfilling career as a certified nursing assistant in Joliet for many years. She also devoted herself to serving as an aide at a special education school, where she lovingly assisted in the long-term care and support of her son.

Sandra was independent by nature, yet she shared a special lifelong bond with her dear friend Betty, who was like a sister to her. Always on the go, Sandra found joy in simple pleasures such as crocheting and thrift shopping. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. She never missed an opportunity to be with her grandchildren, whether it was swimming, visiting parks, or simply taking long drives together. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and the love she shared with them will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Survivors include her grandchildren: Daniel Ramos, Erika Ramos, Victor Ramos, Jessica Ramos, and Julianna Ramos, all of Kankakee; great-grandchildren: Lilianna Mendez, Jonnathan Mendez, Marduk Ramos, Izabella Ramos, Zaiden Madrigal, Jayla Juarez, Kristian Madrigal, Aurelija and Ismerie Varela; great-great-grandchildren: Adriel Mendez, Zavier and Milani Salazar; and daughter Michele Kunkel of Bradley, Illinois.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, her three sons: Thomas, Victor, and Brian Kunkel, and her best friend Betty Lou.

Per her wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.

Memorials may be made to the UpliftedCare of Bourbonnais, Illinois, as they cared for Sandra with nurturing hearts.
