Scott J. Durando

“Bagger”

Age 54 of Coal City died peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at his home with his mother by his side, who was his constant cheerleader and caregiver during his 18 month battle with cancer.

Born April 20, 1967 in Joliet Scott Joseph is a son of Marcus “Butch” and Patsy (nee Peterson) Durando. He was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1985. Scott was employed with Berkots Foods in Coal City since 2005 where he took great pride in managing the liquor department, and was affectionately known as “Bagger”. He enjoyed spending time at Don’s Beer Store with his friends who he loved like family. Scott  loved riding his bike, especially at the Coal City Area Club, and was also a great fan of classic rock, firearms, and the Three Stooges. He had a huge heart and would help anyone in need, and though he lived a simple life, Scott enjoyed it to the fullest.

Survivors include his parents, Butch and Patsy Durando, his brother, Michael “Duke” (Debbie) Durando, his cherished niece and nephew: Taylor (Anthony) Bucci and their son Chase, and Dominic (Kari) Durando and their daughter Audrey; his ex-wife and good friend, Joann Bertino, and many other friends and family.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway Street (one block north of Illinois Route 113), in Coal City from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral services at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Braidwood.

Pallbearers will be Michael Durando, Dominic Durando, Anthony Bucci, Rick Peterson, Kenny Peterson, and Kevin Peterson.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Scott’s memory to the family for their distribution.
