Sharon Boynton

Age 71 of Wilmington, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday morning, February 19, 2024 at her home. Sharon was an 18 year Breast Cancer survivor.

Born January 8, 1953 in Joliet, Illinois, Sharon Lea was a daughter of Donald B. and Rose M. (Alstott). She was raised and educated in Wilmington, where she attended the public schools.

On July 11, 1970, Sharon married Glenn O. Boynton in the First Christian Church in Wilmington and together they made a home and raised a family together.

Sharon instructed country and western dance for 16 years, and leaves behind a legacy of writing, which includes a copy of her book of poetry, which is proudly held in the National Library of Congress. She was a member of the Wilmington Lions Club and belonged to the Wilmington VFW Ladies Auxiliary, where she dedicated herself to honoring local Veterans with their flag line. Sharon was a talented painter and above all else cherished her family. She will be remembered for always being there for anyone in need.

Survivors include her three children: Glenn O., Jr. (Colette) Boynton, Matthew D. (Teresa) Boynton and Sara (Scott) Barbour; ten grandchildren: Elizabeth, Lisa, Brendan, Brianna, Matthew II, Angelina, Rose, Glenn W., Alexander and Seth; four great grandchildren: Aiden, Joshua, Jenna and Evan; and one sister, Donna Nutt of Kansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn Sr. on November 8, 2014; two brothers: Daniel Frey and Lee Frey and one sister, Judith Capper, as well as her cousin Joyce Williams, who was like a sister.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until time of remembrance at 8:00 p.m.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation and she will be laid to rest in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with her late husband, Glenn on July 11, 2024, which would have been their 54th wedding anniversary.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Sharon’s memory to The Wilmington Lions Club or to the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno.
