Steven A. McCawley

"Stevie"

Age 37 of Coal City, Illinois passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice on Friday, October 10, 2025 after valiant efforts to overcome so many challenges and adversity for so long.

Born March 20, 1988, Steven faced many challenges throughout his life, and he met every obstacle with resilience. He communicated with his own unique vocabulary of happy sounds, smiles, his eye blinks, and an occasional furrowed brow to let us know his thoughts and emotions. Steven gave the best cheek to cheek hug which showed the depth of his love.

He taught his family and all who cared for him how to live in the moment. Things such as feeling the sun on your face, dancing to music (which for him was in his wheelchair) but no doubt just as spectacular, or a simple gesture of holding hands and sitting together. Steven gave us so much joy and taught us an immeasurable amount of unconditional LOVE. His memory will be treasured and his light will shine in the hearts of all who knew him.

Steven was deeply loved and will forever be in the hearts of his parents: Steve and Cindy (Kibler) McCawley, and his brother and sister: Alex and Madison McCawley, all of Coal City; paternal grandmother, Shirley (McCawley) Simpson of Wilmington, IL; aunts and uncles: Rick Kibler of Braceville, IL, Rev. Scott McCawley of Naperville, IL, Shari (Chris) VanDuyne of Wilmington, IL, and Bev (Scott) Romanetto of Coal City; great aunt, Bonnie Pelton of Carbon Hill, IL, and great uncle, Tipton (Marilyn) McCawley of Wheaton, IL; cousins: Luke VanDuyne, McClain VanDuyne, Mason VanDuyne, Madeline Romanetto, and Ellee Romanetto, and his special cousin and dear friend, Kevin Gutzman.

Steven was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Ira and Arlene Kibler, and paternal grandfather, Shaderic "Sonny" McCawley; uncles: Jay Spolarich, George Pelton, Walter Gutzman, Roger Strohm, and Don Kibler; and one aunt, Lucille Strohm.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and the family will receive friends at Assumption Parish Berst Center, 150 South Kankakee Street, in Coal City on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m.
