Susan Barry

Age 68 of Wilmington, Illinois and formerly of Homer Glen, Illinois passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois.

Born April 19, 1955 in Worth, Illinois, Susan Kay was a daughter of Harry and Evelyn (Nickleski) Chmielewski. She was raised in Worth and graduated from Queen of Peace with the Class of 1973.

Sue owned and operated a residential cleaning service which she began while living in Justice, and it continued to flourish after her move to the Homer Glen area. Sue enjoyed volunteering with her therapy Golden Retrievers Emma and Elle at Palos Hospital, Coal City Public Library and Wilmington Public Library. She took pleasure in playing bunco with friends; loved to read and garden, and created a priceless collection of photo and memory books in which her family will treasure.

Remembered as vibrant, friendly and fun, Sue leaves a legacy of doing well, and above all else, doing good.

Survivors include her husband, Ken Pratl, whom she married September 13, 1998; one daughter, Elizabeth Barry of Wilmington; brother, Ronald (Theresa) Chmielewski of Ft. Myers, Florida; sister, Sharon (Mike) Leatherman of Frankfort, Illinois; sisters-in-law: Carol (Bill) Damaschke of Justice, Illinois and Nancy (Ron) Wood of Albany, Georgia, and nieces and nephews: Michael (Betsy) Leatherman, Kristi (Mike) Yott and Lisa (Chad) Gabriel, as well as great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and her former husband and father of her daughter, Terry Barry.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service, 12:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded at the conclusion of the services.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Sue’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
