Terry L. Schiffer

Age 76 of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away gracefully Monday, August 31, 2026, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois, surrounded by family.

Born August 21, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Terry Linda was the eldest daughter of Harry and Jeanette (Musilek) McIntyre. She was raised and educated in Chicago and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School with the Class of 1968.

On December 1, 1973, Terry married Allen Schiffer in Chicago. Together, Terry and Al first made their home in Oak Lawn before settling in rural Wilmington, where they raised their family and built a life together.

For 15 years, Terry drove a bus for Wilmington, transporting individuals to Guardian Angel Community Services. She later transitioned to PACE, where she worked in administration for several years. In time, Terry and Al embarked on another chapter together when they became co-owners of Reco’s Tap and Grille in East Brooklyn, Illinois.

Throughout the years, Terry generously gave of her time to activities that involved her family and community. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader during the 1970s and 1980s and later served on the Boy Scout Committee throughout the 1980s and 1990s. She also enjoyed connecting with others through an online crochet group. She put her talent of crocheting to work, creating beautiful blankets and afghans for her family and friends.

Some of Terry’s fondest times were spent traveling and camping with her family. Their adventures took them to places such as the Badlands, Rocky Mountain National Park and Yellowstone, as well as Wisconsin, where trips often included time spent visiting family. Annual family camping trips to Canada also became treasured traditions and created many lasting memories.

At home, Terry found great satisfaction in cooking, baking, and tending to things she grew herself. She cultivated rhubarb for her homemade pies and cared for fruit trees, putting their harvest to good use in her kitchen. More than anything, Terry took pride in making a home and caring for the people she loved.

Terry will be remembered as a woman of remarkable determination. Tenacious and strong-willed, she faced life with persistence and rarely allowed an obstacle to stand in her way. Yet alongside that strength was a loving and kind nature that was evident in the way she cared for her family and others. A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Terry created a home filled with the simple things that mattered most.

Her strength, determination, and love for her family will remain an enduring part of the legacy she leaves behind.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Allen; three children: Kimberly (Paul) Reed, Tammy Sheikh (Jim Coe) of Diamond, Illinois, and Luke Schiffer of Union Hill, Illinois; (10) grandchildren: Zachary, Alexander and Jenna, Eddie, Adam, Noah and Sarah, Jacob, Nathan and Brianna; (3) great grandchildren: Gavin, Elliot and Leila; one brother, Daniel McIntyre of Wisconsin, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by her grandmother Evelyn Mair; parents Harry and Jeanette (Musilek) McIntyre; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adam and Victoria Schiffer; daughter, Michelle Marie; sister, Donna (Bruce) Wierzgacz; brother, Randy McIntyre and nephew, Brian Schiffer.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service, 11:00 a.m.

Burial will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Terry’s memory to a disabled Veterans organization.
