Obituary

Age 93 of Wilmington, Illinois, died Monday, December 29, 2025 at Serenity Estates in Morris, Illinois.

Born September 13, 1932 in Coal City, Illinois, Vera was the daughter of Raymond and Elva (Ulivi) Roach. She was raised in Symerton, Illinois, and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1950. On May 17, 1952, Vera married Ronald Patrick Habing at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and together they made their home and raised their family in Wilmington.

Vera was a dedicated member of Saint Rose Catholic Church, serving on the Council of Catholic Woman and was a past recipient of the CCW Woman of the Year Award. She devoted much of her time to cleaning the church and maintaining the grounds, and was always active in decorating the church for the Christmas holiday.

Vera was a devoted wife and mother, ensuring that the home was always in good order. She kept an immaculate house and her gardening was always on display, making her home very inviting to any who would come or go. Vera had a particular way she liked things done, but she instilled manners and common courtesy to her children and their own families. She leaves behind a four generations of a loving family that was blessed to have her as their matriarch, forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include three children: Sue Thompson, Sandy (Bob) Adams and James (Tina) Habing, all of Wilmington; son-in-law, Todd (Doreen) Soltysik of Zephyr Hill, Florida; grandchildren: Jeff (Kristi) Thompson, Stephanie Thompson, Chris (Katie) Thompson, Carrie (Brent) Van Duyne, Tony (Natalie) Adams, Curt (Shanta) Adams, Bryan (Taylor) Adams, Bobby Soltysik, and Brian Butcher; great grandchildren: Cole (Hayleigh) Thompson, Kile Thompson, Zach Thompson (fiancé: Ashley Tippett), Aiden Thompson, Korbin Thompson, Tucker Thompson, Mike (Fatima) Catlin, Hunter Catlin, Zander Van Duyne, Chance Van Duyne, Blayne (Katie) Adams, Makenna Adams, Peyton Adams, and Logan Adams; great-great grandchildren: Eoghan Thompson, Declan Thompson, Maverick Thompson, Sophia Adams, Isabella Adams, and Avery Thompson; brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom (Sherrie) Habing of Rockford, Pam Habing of Milford, and Nancy Habing of Ames, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald Habing; daughter, Sheila Soltysik; two grandsons: Ronnie and Ryan; her son-in-law, Rick Thompson; one brother, Ray Roach, and brothers and sister-in-law: Pat Habing, Charles Habing, and Jean (Richard) Skelly.

The family will receive friends at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Saint Rose Catholic Church, 604 South Kankakee Street, in Wilmington.
