Age 66 of Braidwood, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Friday June 12, 2020 at her home.

Born November 16, 1953 in Chicago, Virginia Ann was a daughter of Andrew and Adele (nee Cattlett) DeBoard. She was raised and educated in Wilmington and attended Wilmington schools. On February 10, 1970, Virginia married George Stacy Powers in Joliet. She devoted herself to her family as a homemaker and loved being a mother to her three children, and later being a proud grandma to her five grandchildren.

Virginia was a devoted member of Island City Baptist Church in Wilmington, where she participated in the choir, Vacation Bible School, and TOPS. She loved to go camping, especially at the Braidwood Recreation Club where she and her family were members. Virginia loved to sing and dance, and was always the one capturing important family memories with her camera and video recorder.

Survivors include her husband of fifty years: George Powers of Braidwood; three children: Ricky (Lorie)  Powers of Bourbonnais, Emanuel (Jennifer) Powers of Godley, and Crystal (Dustin Hinz) Powers of Braidwood; five grandchildren: Xavier and Emmawyn Powers, Steven Hoffman, Cody (Hailey) Maske, and Hope Maske; one sister and two brothers: Alice Futch of Arkansas, Wayne (Cindy) DeBoard of Mount Olive, Illinois, and Jeff (Kathy) DeBoard of Wilmington; four sisters-in-law: Charlene DeBoard of Cabery, Sandy DeBoard of Wilmington, Wilma Crafton of Indiana, and Stella Powers of Mexico; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law: George and Ada Powers; nine siblings: Naydene Collins, Etta Jowers, Billy DeBoard, Jim DeBoard, Joe DeBoard, Charles DeBoard, Ronnie DeBoard, Michael DeBoard, and Margaret in infancy; and two brothers-in-law: Addies Powers and John Powers.

Visitation will be Wednesday June 17, 2020 at Island City Baptist Church, 120 Vine Street, in Wilmington from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Jeff Logsdon will officiate, and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Due to current pandemic guidelines, face masks will be required for attendees and measures of safe social distancing practices will be in order.  Funeral home staff will assist the family not to exceed the safe number set forth for the both the visitation and service.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Virginia's memory to Island City Baptist Church in Wilmington.
