Wanda L. Bertoglio

Age 77 of Verona, Illinois and formerly of Morris, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the ARC of Dwight.

Born July 31, 1946, in Joliet, Illinois, Wanda Lee was a daughter of Walter and Lucille (Hughes) Harris. She was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1964. 

Wanda’s employment included working in the cafeteria at Morris High School as well as at Hornsby’s Department Store. She later gained a position in the housekeeping department at Morris Hospital from where she retired.

A member of the Morris VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Wanda also belonged to the Coal City Area Club and attended both Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris, as well as Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. 

She loved flowers and gardening and spent much time riding her three-wheel bicycle. Known for her sweet nature and thoughtful heart, Wanda was always appreciative of others, radiating kindness wherever she went.

Above all, Wanda cherished her family. Her love for her grandchildren was boundless, and she took immense pride in being a loving and dedicated mom and grandma. Her memory will be a source of comfort and inspiration for her family, who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Wanda Bertoglio leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Survivors include her loving companion of 38 years, Rich Knop; children: Philip (Lisa) Bertoglio of Diamond, Illinois, Lisa Bertoglio of Morris and Alan Bertoglio of Joliet, as well as Don (Mary) Knop of Oklahoma; grandchildren: Ryan (Jasmine) Shannon of Algonquin, Illinois, Brittany (Mike) Sutton and Jeremy (Paige) Shannon of Iowa, Jules (Jayson) Nowak of Wisconsin, Morgan Bertoglio of Seneca, Illinois, Nicholas (Alyssa) Arndt of Florida, Nathan Arndt of Chicago, Kristen Arndt of Diamond and Melissa (Justin) Brous of Oklahoma; great grandchildren: Kamden Shannon, Kaeden Shannon, Eevie Nowak, Annie Nowak, Knox Sutton, Elijah Shannon and Myla Rose Brous; one sister, Charlene Orolin of Morris and several nieces and nephews.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Joanne Ferrari and Mary Lou Baker; the father of her children, Joseph Bertoglio; Terry Knop and aunt, Florence Passet.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in Ward Cemetery, Verona, Illinois.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Wanda’s memory to ARC of Dwight Activities Department or to Lightways Hospice.
