William J. Haughtigan "Bill"

Age 82 of Morris and formerly Coal City, passed away Monday August 14, 2006 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet.

Born December 14, 1923 in Streator, Bill was a son of the late Joseph and Arretta (Connell) Haughtigan. He was raised and educated in Chicago, and graduated from Parker High School with the Class of 1941. Bill was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Marines with the Marine Air Group 13 "MAG 13" from 1941-1945. On February 14, 1953, Bill married Carol Wilson in the Coal City United Methodist Church and he owned and operated Haughtigan Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning until his retirement in 2000. Bill was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, the Joliet Elks Club, Morris Moose Lodge, Morris VFW, Morris Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion. Bill enjoyed attending annual MAG 13 reunions with his fellow Veterans.

Survivors include his three daughters: Ella (Joseph) Sciarra of Woodland Hills, California, Carol (Jim) Halas of San Clemente, California and Mary (Scott) Brandon of Joliet. His dear friend Joy Daggett of Morris, Eight grandchildren: Nathan (Jackie) Sciarra of Parker, Colorado and Daniel and Madeleine Sciarra, both of Woodland Hills, California, Olivia Halas, Claire Halas and Ian Halas, all of San Clemente, California and Carolyn Underhill and Connor Brandon, both of Joliet and one sister Jean (Vergil) Bauer of Westbrook, Minnesota, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Stephen Haughtigan and Wilson Haughtigan, both in 1975 and his wife Carol in 1990.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 16, 2006 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow on Thursday August 17th at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Mike Pennock officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Joseph Sciarra, Jim Halas, Scott Brandon, Nathan Sciarra, Daniel Sciarra and Mark Yonekawa.
