William Travis McDowell

Age 71 of Lockport and formerly of Wilmington and Hartselle, Alabama passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Born January 28, 1947 in Haleyville, Alabama, William Travis was a son of William C. and Dorothy Mae (Loyd) McDowell. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School. On May 4, 1968 William married Mary Brown in an intimate setting in the Brown family home in Wilmington. Together they made their home and raised their family in Wilmington. William worked as a boiler operator for Commonwealth Edison Company for thirty years until retiring at the age of 50. After retirement, William and Mary moved to Hartselle, Alabama for 19 years until returning home to be closer to family. He will be remembered for his many interests including golf, fishing, hunting, bowling, travel and his love of music, but he will be remembered most for his love of family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Mary; two children: Michelle (Greg) Zois of Plainfield and William J. McDowell of Crest Hill; five grandchildren: Molly (Bill) Bass, Michael Thomas, Brandon McDowell, and Christopher and Madeline Zois; great-grandson: Liam Bass; sister: Janice (Dick) Dale of Bourbonnais; brother: James (Helen) McDowell of Florida; brothers and sister-in-law: Ed (Judy) McPherson of Arizona, Joe (Mary) Brown, Jr. of Wilmington and Virgie (the late Garry) McPherson of Mississippi, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

William was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donnie McDowell.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until time of celebration of life service 4:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home (700 East Kahler Road) in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in William's memory to Wags to Wishes (www.w2wrescue.com)  in Plainfield, Illinois or to the Salvation Army.
