Alice Wills

Age 98 of Coal City, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2021 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born March 26, 1922 in Symerton, Illinois, Alice was the 5th of 14 children born to Charles Joseph and Gertrude Evelyn (Howard) Haldorson. At the age of 12, Alice moved with her family to the family farm on Whitetie Road, and she attended Carbon Hill School before going on to graduate from Coal City High School with the Class of 1940.

On May 17, 1941, Alice married Elmer D. Wills, and together they made their home and raised their family in Coal City. She kept the books for the family business, Wills Well Drilling from 1946 until 1997. Alice was a founding member of the Coal City Area Club, and belonged to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Coal City. She enjoyed boating at the Coal City Area Club, quilting and baking. Alice took great pleasure in watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their activities and sporting events throughout the years, and spending time with her family was always of utmost importance.

Survivors include her three children: James (Mary) Wills of Coal City, William (Patti) Wills of Braceville and Thomas (Terese) Wills of Coal City; (12) grandchildren: Andrew Wills of Crest Hill, Derek Wills, Missy (Joe) Shank and Billy (Stacey) Wills, all of Coal City, Kerrin (Ryan) Bailey and Nathan (Heather) Wills, both of Diamond, Kyle (Sara) Wills of Duluth, Minnesota, Ben (Amanda) Wills of Fishers, Indiana, Nolan Green of Coal City, Benjamin (Erin) Green of Westtown, New York, Philip Green (Rae) of Diamond and Belinda (Marty) Egan of Coal City; (19) great grandchildren: Ryan (Katie) Shank of Coal City, Tyler Shank (Alyss) of Troy, Illinois, Jacy Shank (fiance’ Kasey Kaiser) of Coal City, Maisy Wills, Abram Wills, Ella Wills, Brock Bailey, Bennett Bailey, Aiden Wills, and Evelyn Wills all of Coal City, Djuna Wills and Doreen Wills, both of Duluth, Minnesota, Grady Wills, Cohen Wills, and Beckett Wills, all of Fishers, Indiana, Cooper Green of Westmont, Illinois, Evan Green and Owen Green, both of Westtown, New York and Theodore Green of Diamond; one great-great granddaughter Rayna Kaiser; two sisters: Lucille Quayle and June Hedgecock, both of Coal City; one brother, Ralph (Lela) Haldorson of Wilmington, two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Haldorson of Wilmington and Margaret Haldorson of Willow Springs, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; brothers: Howard, Charles, Raymond (Betty), Robert (Genevieve), John, George and Clyde Haldorson; sisters: Elsie (Joe) Skubic, Helen (Harold) Jensen and Betty (Joe) Panish; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Royce Quayle, Leroy Hedgecock, Wanda (Calvin) Studyvin, Glen (Cecile) Wills and Melvin (LaVada) Wills.

The family will receive friends for a visitation and celebration of Alice’s life on what would be her 99th birthday, March 26, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.

Face coverings will be required and measures of safe social distancing will be in order.

Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 215 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated with Revered Robert Noesen presiding.

Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Alice will be laid to rest with her late husband, Elmer. Pallbearers will be: Billy Wills, Nate Wills, Benjamin Wills, Andy Wills, Derek Wills and Abram Wills. Honorary pallbearers will be: Kyle Wills, Ryan Shank, Tyler Shank, Aiden Wills, Joe Shank, Ryan Bailey, Ben Green, Nolan Green, Philip Green and Marty Egan.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Alice’s memory to the Coal City Food Pantry or to the Carbon Hill Museum.
